February 2012 - IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Character Connection: Resourcefulness

"America is moving forward and gaining strength. We have been tested, and we have proven ourselves to be a tough, resilient and resourceful nation". --Bill Frist

How can we be resourceful?  The first thing that comes to mind is recycling.  Many of us, hopefully all of us, recycle our used bottles, cans, paper, cardboard, plastics, metals, et cetra.  That is a great start.  How else can we be resourceful?  Resourceful is defined in Dictionary.com as, "able to deal skillfully and promptly with new situations, difficulties, etc".  So, resourceful does not begin with your recycling can sitting at your curb but rather it started with the resourcefulness person that used his head and thought to themself that there must be a better way to dispose of or reuse our garbage...

A Scout is...

Trustworthy, Loyal,  Helpful, Friendly, Courteous,  Kind, Obedient,  Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.

Words to live by.

Provide support for your scout's den & pack

It's important to remember that the adult leaders of your scout's den/pack are volunteers who give their own time to provide a quality program for your scout. There are always times when help from parents in the pack is needed.  By pitching in as needed, you can show your scout the importance of helping others. So be on the lookout for opportunities for you to help the den, the pack, and its leaders.

Do you know a young boy in 1st through 5th grade that likes to explorer, hike, camp, crafts and working with tools?  Cub Scouts might be the right place for him.

Cub Pack 177 meets Friday evenings at 7:00PM in the Our Lady of Hope Parish Center.  For more information email CubPack177@mail.com or stop by and see what we have planned.

Patriots Day

Cub Scouts Brian and Michael joined members of Boy Scout Troop 177 and many other residence of our community for a very important service at Chew Landing Fire Department in which an artifact of the World Trade Center was dedicated and permantly placed on display.  It was both a beautiful and somber service as we recalled all of the brave men and women who lost their lives on 9/11/01 while thanking those who serve and protect us every day right here in Gloucester Township.

Riversharks

Unfortunately a large thunderstorm with relentless rain postponed the Riversharks game on Friday, August 19th and therefore Cub Scout Pack 177 and Boy Scout Troop 177 were not able to take the field and perform their duty as color guard.  We look forward to another opportunity.

You ought to be in pictures!
